Trending on Mastodon

Tags with increased activity during the past week.

Live hashtag names and seven-day activity come from the public API at mastodon.social. If direct access fails, Toolsaly relays the same public request. Counts describe that Mastodon server only; they are not Instagram, YouTube or global popularity estimates.
Your topic is sent to mastodon.social to search its public hashtag index; Toolsaly may relay that request if direct access fails. Custom keywords and selected output stay in your browser.

About this tool

What this tool does

The hashtag generator uses a real public social index instead of presenting a fixed list as current popularity. It keeps the source and scope visible so recent server activity is not mistaken for global platform data.

How the result is produced

  • Topic searches use the mastodon.social public v2 search endpoint with the result type restricted to hashtags.
  • If the browser cannot reach the public API directly, a cached Toolsaly endpoint relays the same restricted request.
  • Seven-day use and account totals are summed from the daily history returned with each hashtag.
  • The trending section uses the server's public trending-tags endpoint and can be refreshed independently.
  • Selected live tags and custom keywords are normalized, de-duplicated and limited to 30 before copying.

Good uses

  • Discovering public Mastodon hashtags related to a topic
  • Comparing recent activity among closely related tags
  • Building a clean draft set that combines observed and custom tags

How to verify the result

  • Open promising tags on the social platform where the post will actually be published.
  • Check that every selected tag is relevant to the specific post, not only popular.
  • Review platform rules and recent posts before publishing a large tag set.

Known limitations

  • Counts cover activity reported by mastodon.social, not every Mastodon server or the whole internet.
  • The data does not represent Instagram, YouTube, TikTok or global hashtag popularity.
  • Public trends change quickly, and custom keywords do not receive measured activity unless returned by the live search.
